Dr. Beckett leads the medical team at Atlantis. He is forced to solve many alien, as well as Earth bound diseases. Beckett possesses and had discovered the "Ancient Technology Activation gene" which allows humans to interact with specialized technology in the base of Atlantis and around the universe, but is often afraid to use the gene himself with Ancient technology, such as the Control Chair.
It has been confirmed that Dr. Beckett will "disappear" in the second half of Season 3, and that he will not be a regular in Season 4.
His role on the show as Atlantis?s chief medical officer is rumored to be replaced by actress Jewel Staite (Firefly), who will play the recurring role of a medical doctor named Dr. Keller.
